Sadler's Monster Night Leads Toros to 84-79 Win over Holy Names

RIVERSIDE -- Junior forward Justin Sadler poured in 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the floor to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to its first win of the 2015-16 season, holding off a game HNU squad that scored 50 points in the second half.

The Toros shot 60.7% in the first 20 minute of play, with Sadler connecting for 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor as CSUDH ran out to a 44-29 edge.

After the break, however, Holy Names came charging back behind Dante Robinson and Joshua Crum, who combined for 28 of the Hawks' 50 points in the second session.

CSUDH's lead ballooned to 19 points on four occasions early in the second half, until HNU got to within single digits at the 9:14 mark on a fast break bucket.

The Hawks then crept to within three points three minutes later, before a pair of free throws of Arthur Caldwell gave CSUDH breathing room and a 5-point edge.

That didn't spurn the HNU charge as a Hawk jumper with 4:07 cut CSUDH's lead to 71-69, giving them hope.

Sadler, however, converted on a layup after a media timeout, and a pair of Darius Butler free throws again pushed CSUDH's lead to six at 75-69.

One final push by HSU with under a minute left brought the Hawks to within 79-77, but three of four free throw makes by Jonathan Nichols and a perfect 2-for-2 by Ivan Dooley with eight seconds left closed the door on a pesky Hawk squad.

CSUDH shot a sizzling 54.7% for the game, making a solid 84% of its attempts from the charity stripe.

The Toros earned the win on the glass, out-boarding HNU by a whopping 14 rebounds, led by Sadler's 10 and nine by Caldwell.

CSUDH next will head to the 49th state for a pair of games against West Region foes Alaska Fairbanks and Alaska Anchorage.
