Tritons Keep Toros Winless in League Play After 70-50 Decision

CARSON -- Junior newcomer Ivan Dooley's 16 points led Cal State Dominguez Hills to a respectable 40.5 percent shooting from the floor, but visiting UC San Diego posted a 43.4 percent success rate while draining six more field goals seven more treys in taking a 70-50 win over the Toros tonight in the Torodome.

CSUDH falls to 4-12, 0-10 CCAA with the setback.

Tyler Payne kept the Toros in the game in the first half with his 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, but the Tritons drained nearly 50% of its their first-half shots and four more triples to take a 36-24 lead after the first 20 minutes of play.

After a Dooley triple cut CSUDH's deficit to 39-31 less than three minutes into the second half, UCSD pushed its lead to 15 on a layup four minutes later.

Another triple, this one by David Gonzalez at 10:23, again gave the hosts momentum, but UCSD answered with consecutive 3-pointers on their next two possessions to push its lead to 14 before closing the game with a 10-1 run for the eventual 20-point win.

CSUDH takes to the road for consecutive weekends before returning home on February 6, to host perennial power CS San Bernardino for a 7:30 pm first tip.
