Bouarroudj Golden as Toros Topple Cal Baptist in 2-1 Overtime Win

Box Score

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills newcomers Pedro Velasquez and Rayane Bouarroudj teamed up in the 99th minute against a game Cal Baptist squad, and the result was an overtime golden goal by Bouarroudj that gave the Toros their first win of the 2014 season in a 2-1 decision.

The Toros improve to 1-0-1 with the win, while Cal Baptist dips to 0-1-1 in a battle of unbeaten teams heading into tonight's match-up.

Velasquez opened the scoring early after Lancer keeper Noah Oyler inexplicably tried to dribble the ball past the hard-charging Velasquez at the 8 yard mark, where Velasquez easily stole the ball and sent his uncontested shot to the back of the net at 2:21.

The non-conference contest saw each team become a man down at the 52:29 mark when Lancer Josue Soto and Toro Edson Lemus were issued red cards, sending both players to the locker room.

The score remained 1-nil Toros until the 82nd minute when Toro keeper was called for a foul after colliding with Chris Gaitan, eliciting a penalty kick attempt.  Gaitan calmly converted to tie the score at 81:23, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra period, the Toros made the most of their opportunites as Velasquez found Bouarroudj across the face of the goal, where he beat Oyler to the side net for the golden goal.

In an evenly played game, the Toros out-shot CBU 16 to 15, but were out-cornered 6 to 3.  A total of 35 fouls were called, with 21 called on the hosts.

The Toros continue their non-conference schedule on the road on Tuesday, taking on Azusa Pacific for a 7 pm first kick.
