Toros Open 2014 Season With 1-1 Double OT Draw at Point Loma

Box Score

SAN DIEGO -- Under sunny skies to open the 2014 season, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team forged a 1-1 double overtime draw at Point Loma, with its goal courtesy of a Sea Lion own goal.

Starting freshman keeper Chase Gentry played all 110 minutes in net in the tie, making 5 saves on the afternoon.

The game was scoreless through the first half and looked to continue as the whistle blew to begin the second stanza.

At 56:20, PLNU keeper Arvin Yakou missed his clearing kick attempt as the ball trickled past him and into the Sea Lion net, auspiciously giving the Toros their first goal of the season.

That's where the score remained until the 81st minute with PLNU equalized, as Matt Rose sent a cross to Daniel ten Bosch, who one-timed it to the far side of the goal past Gentry to even the score at 1-1.

The Toros out-shot the hosts in each period, but it was Point Loma that seized the advantage in the extra frames, taking 9 shots compared to just 2 for CSUDH in the two 10-minute sessions.

Both team combined for 29 fouls, with each side receiving four cautions each.

Five Toros took one shot on goal each, compared to six for PLNU.

The Toros open their 2014 homestand on Saturday at 7 pm, hosting Cal Baptist at Toro Stadium.
