Velasquez Twice as Nice as Toros Win Third-Straight in 3-1 Decision at CSUSB

SAN BERNARDINO -- Junior newcomer Pedro Velasquez scored a pair of second-half goals as Cal State Dominguez Hills turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 win over host Cal State San Bernardino in picking up its third-consecutive win of the year.

Edson Lemus assisted on both of Velasquez's scores as CSUDH improves to 4-4-1, 2-0 CCAA.

The first half was a back-and-forth tug with Tony Lo giving the Coyotes a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Jose Gonzalez fed the ball to Lo, who drove it from the left side to the right.

But CSUDH answered back seven minutes later on a goal from Al Nazari, who connected his header after a feed from Santos Romero, and the teams were tied at halftime, 1-1.

The Toros earned second-half goals from Pedro Velasquez, the first coming on a give and go in the 69th minute, besting Ivan Sanchez 1 v 1 for what proved to be the game winner.

Velasquez struck again eight minutes later after breaking free up the middle and sending his shot to the right of Sanchez for an insurance score.

CSUSB had four SOGs with 10 total shots. CSUDH had 20 shots on the afternoon with 11 SOGs.

The Toros will host cross-town rival Cal State L.A. on Friday, in a rematch of an earlier season non-conference affair in which the Golden Eagles put a 4-1 hurt on the Cardinal and Gold in Los Angeles. First kick for the contest is set for 7 pm on Stub Hub Center's Field 3, with the day being "Think Pink" Friday.
