Toros Win By Touchdown Over Antelope Valley

Box Score

CARSON -- In dire need of a "feel good" game after starting the season with just one win in its first six contests, Cal State Dominguez Hills got just that in the form of visiting University of Antelope Valley as the Toros scored six second-half goals in a 7-0 rout of the Pioneers, who began their soccer program just this year.

Frankie Perez scored a pair of goals as CSUDH improves to 2-4-1 overall, with the CCAA ledger to begin this Friday against Chico State.

The Toros connected for the game's first score in the 8th minute after UAV was called for a foul in their box.  Pedro Velasquez took the honors, slamming home a penalty kick attempt for his third goal of the year for a 1-nil lead, where it remained until the half.

That's when the scoring exploded as CSUDH tacked on its second score on an Israel Murguia tally at the 51:03 mark, with Jose Vaca following suit 15 minutes later for a 3-0 lead.

A Tim Harty header just over five minutes later brought the score to 4-0, with another header by the high-flying Irvin Aguiniga, this time off a Murguia corner kick two minutes later, giving CSUDH a 5-0 lead.

Perez then took over, notching a pair of goals in a seven-minute stretch to cap the scoring, with Justin Yapelli providing the assist on both scores.

The Toros tallied a dominating 23-5 shot tally over their opponents, causing UAV keeper Roberto Hernandez to make five saves.  His counterpart in Dylan Roberts repelled three balls in the shutout as CSUDH snapped a 4-game skid.

CSUDH will open CCAA play on Friday as Chico State visits Carson for a 7 pm first kick in Toro Stadium.
