Young's Offense Fuels 7-4 and 5-3 Sweep Over Warriors

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- Junior lefty Kamran Young launched a two-out, 3-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning to provide the margin of victory as Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 7-4 win in game one of today's twinbill over visiting Cal State Stanislaus before driving in a pair in the nightcap to fuel a 5-3 victory in a sweep of the Warriors at Toro Field.

Young finished the day 4-of-7 with seven RBI and two runs scored as CSUDH improves to 16-15, 11-12 CCAA.

The opener saw an early pitcher's duel between Toro starter Tyler Mark and Warrior starter Nick Voumard, with a Young RBI double in the bottom of the first knotting the game at 1-1.

The Toros took a 2-1 lead on a Young groundout four innings later, and added another run in the seventh on a Danny Haley sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 in favor of the Cardinal and Gold.

The Warriors tied the game on a 2-run shot one inning later, before an Alex Sixtos RBI double gave CSUDH the lead for good.  Up stepped Young, who belted his fourth home run of the year to right field, a no doubt about it shot to make it 7-3 in the eventual 7-4 decision.

Young drove in five on two hits as Aaron Gray picked up the win after an inning of work, with Winston Lavendier collecting the save by tossing the final two-thirds in the ninth.

The nightcap saw CSUDH take a 3-1 lead after one on, you guess it, another Young RBI single, a baseknock that preceded a bases loaded walk by Sixtos and a Warrior fielding error.

CSUDH added a pair in the fourth on a Haley RBI triple to the left center field gap, who came home himself on an RBI single by Young.

CSUS added a pair in the fifth, but starter David Haerle, who earned the win after 6.1 innings and just one earned run, and reliever Joseph Perez, whose 0.2 innings earned him his second save, were too good in the 5-3 final, despite the Warriors leavine the bases loaded in the seventh.

Peter Ives and Young paced the offense with two hits each, with Young driving home two and Bubby Rossman drawing two walks.

The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow morning at 11:00 am, with the game being streamed live on the Toro Sports Network.
