Pioneers Take Twinbill Sweep in 11-4 and 4-2 Decisions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- Visiting Cal State East Bay jumped out to an 8-0 lead en route to an 11-4 game one win in this morning's CCAA twinbill before a more baseball like 4-2 victory to sweep the double-header.

Danny Haley went 3-for-5 with a run scored in the game one loss, adding two hits and another run scored in the nightcap as the Toros drop to 17-22, 12-19 CCAA.

After taking a 3-0 lead after three, CSUEB put up five in the sixth before the Toros finally got on the board with two in their sixth-inning at-bat on a Kamran Young 2RBI double to right.

CSUDH cut into its deficit more with a pair of runs an inning later on a 2RBI single by Peter Ives to cut the Pio lead in half, but the visitors answered with three runs in the eighth to put the game away in the eventual 11-4 win.

Daniel Matienzo also added a pair of hits while three Toro errors aided in the CSUEB win.

In the nightcap, the Pios again took an early 2-0 lead in their first at-bat, only to have the Toros tie it in the first on a Hayden Maurice RBI single and a bases loaded double play to plate Maurice three batters later.

That proved to be the only scoring for the Toros in the nightcap, however, as CSUEB put across single runs in the sixth and seventh to come away with the 4-2 win.

Joseph Perez took the complete-game loss with five Ks, allowing three earned runs.

The two teams will conclude their four-game series tomorrow morning, with first pitch set for 11 am on Toro Field.
