No. 11 Wildcats Take Third Walk-Off Win in Three Days to Sweep Series

Box Score

CHICO -- The 11th-ranked Chico State Wildcats earned their third walk-off win in as many days in taking a 7-6 win in the series finale in 11 innings to sweep the regular season series from a game and competitive Cal State Dominguez Hills squad that entered the series having won seven of eight.  Eight different Toros earned a hit today with Adrian Guzman driving home two.

Errors again proved costly as the Toros made five today in falling to 17-19, 12-16 CCAA, giving them 13 in four games against just three miscues from the Wildcats.

Wildcat Blake Walker wacked a two-out single to right field, plating pinch runner Robert Hook, and the Chico State improved to 30-7 overall and 22-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Peter Miller played the hero with game-winning hits Friday and Saturday afternoon. Sunday, Miller was hit by a pitch to start the two-out game-winning rally. After Miller moved to second on a passed ball, Connor Huesers was walked intentionally. Hook, a relief pitcher, came in to pinch run and slid home without a throw on Walker's second walkoff hit of the season.

Ryan McCellan mashed a tying two-run homer in the ninth to send the game into extra frames. Luke Barker (4-0) threw four shutout innings in relief, striking out five, to earn the win.

The 11th-ranked Wildcats came from behind in all four games this weekend, trailing 6-3 Sunday before getting a run closer in the sixth when Huesers doubled and scored on an error.

In the ninth, Eric Angerer drew a one-out walk and then McClellan crushed a ball over the left-field wall to tie the game. It was his first home run of the season. He also doubled and finished with three hits.

Cody Slader went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and pair of RBI, plating the game's first run with a ground ball in the second and then giving Chico State a 3-2 lead in the fourth with a two-out RBI-double.

Ryne Clark tripled and scored in the third to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. He's now reached base safely in 21 straight. Ruben Padilla singled in the third to increase his hitting streak to 13 games.

Huesers went 2-for-5 and Walker 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Just two days after firing five no-hit innings in Friday's 13-inning win, Barker allowed only two hits in four frames. He finished the weekend with 14 strikeouts in nine shutout innings, allowing two singles and no walks. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 35 innings on the mound.

CSUDH received a hit from eight different players in the loss.

The Toros will look to get back on track at home this weekend as Cal State East Bay visits Toro Field for four games, with the Pioneers sitting in fifth place in the CCAA standings, two games ahead of the Toros.
