Monay Lee Earns 1st-Team All-CCAA to Lead Two Toros Named

WALNUT CREEK -- Sophomore Monay Lee was named a 1st-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selection, it was announced this evening at the CCAA Basketball Championship Banquet, taking place at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in a prelude to the start of the CCAA Tournament tomorrow.

Junior Tayler Champion was named to the 2nd-team to round out the CSUDH selections, marking the first time since the 2009-10 season a Toro has been named an All-CCAA honoree.

Helping lead the Toros to the No. 3 seed in the CCAA Tournament, Lee sits 6th in the league in scoring and 12th in rebounds, also leading the Toros in scoring, sitting 2nd in assists and 3rd in boards.  The Huntington Beach native boasts a pair of 30+ point performances as part of 19 games with at least 10 points, including high of 34 on the road at CS Monterey Bay.  Also, she has pulled down at least 10 boards in 6 games, including season-high 13 also in Seaside.

Champion, meanwhile, earned the lone CCAA Player of the Week honor for the Toros this year, and currently sits 6th in rebounds, 11th points, and 16th in blocks in the CCAA.  A scoring threat from anywhere on the floor, the Inglewood native leads the Toros in three-pointers made, and sits 2nd on the team in points and rebounds.  Champion has scored in double-figures in 18 games, with season high 27 at Chico State, and has six games with at least 10 boards including season high 16 vs Academy of Art.

The 3rd-seeded Toros and 6th-seeded Pioneers from Cal State East Bay battle in tomorrow night's primetime match-up at 8:00 pm, with the winner advancing to Friday's semifinal against 2nd-seeded Chico State, also at 8:00 pm.
