Baseball Moves Up Two to No. 8 in NCBWA Top 10 Poll

DALLAS, Tex. -- Coming off a split against No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona in the first two games of the four-game set, the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team moved up two to No. 8 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 10 poll, the third poll of the year.

This is the second inclusion in the NCBWA poll for the Toros this year, with CSUDH one of seven CCAA schools in the top 10.

Chico State took over the top spot from Cal Baptist, while Cal Poly Pomona stayed at No. 2 in the West.  The Lancers slipped two spots to No. 3, with Sonoma State staying at No. 4, UC San Diego holding firm at No. 5, Cal State East Bay moing up two to No. 6, Hawai'i Pacific steady at No. 7, Western Oregon slipping three to No. 9 and San Francisco State making its debut at No. 10.

Cross-town rival Cal State L.A., which appeared at No. 9 last week, dropped out of this week's poll.

The Toros and Broncos split a pair of lopsided wins, with seniors David Haerle on the mound and Bubby Rossman at the dish starring in the 10-2 win after Haerle went 6.0 while scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run, and Rossman enjoyed a 4-for-5 performance with a run scored.

Fellow senior Aaron Gray tossed the final 3.0 innings for the save.

The nightcap, however, was a reversal of fortune as CPP's bats came alive with 14 hits in a 14-2 romp that included a 3-for-5, 5 RBI, 3 hit effort by David Armendariz to fuel the Bronco bats.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball.  Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.

Because of last week's wet weather, the Toros and Broncos were forced to suspend the final two games of last weekend's series.  The two teams will face off in a single 9-inning game today at 2 pm, followed by a 7-inning contest on March 25, also in Pomona.
