Resurgent Offense Makes it Three Straight for Toros Over Monterey Bay

Box Score

SEASIDE -- Coming off a sweep in yesterday's twinbill at Cal State Monterey Bay, the Toros rapped 13 hits en route to an 8-4 win over the Otters to take a three-games-to-none lead in the CCAA series.

Kamran Young belted a 2-run jack in the win as starter David Haerle and reliever Danny Nieves combined for the win and save as CSUDH improved to 13-14, 8-11 CCAA.

The Toro bats jumped all over CSUMB starter Michael Isom, who lasted just 1.1 innings after giving up four hits and three earned runs, as well as three walks.

CSUDH touched Isom and Josh Eagle for six runs, with Young driving home two in the second with a home run, and David Steininger bringing home two with a 2RBI double in the third.

The Otters showed life in the fifth with two runs to make it 6-3, and creeped closer with a single run in the seventh, but the Toros added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on a Peter Ives RBI double and a CSUMB wild pitch with Danny Haley on third for the 8-4 margin.

Toro starter David Haerle threw 5.0 innings for the win, with Danny Nieves tossing the final 4.0 to pick up the save, scattering just two hits in the process.

Steininger, Bubby Rossman, Nick Wagner and Alex Sixtos each belted two hits in the win, with Steininger and Young tallying two RBI each.

The two teams conclude the series tomorrow morning, with first pitch set for 11:00 am.
