Late Comeback Falls Short as Toros Drop 6-4 Contest at No. 9 Cal Poly Pomona

Box Score

POMONA -- Trailing 6-1 entering the top of the 7th, visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills put up three runs on a pair of hits and had runners on first and third with one out, but left both runners stranded in the eventual 6-4 loss at No. 9 Cal Poly Pomona.

Bubby Rossman drove in a pair of runs in a 2-for-4 effort as CSUDH dipped to 10-13, 5-11 CCAA.

As a make-up game completed due to rain in early March, the Broncos picked up where they left off after taking games two and three of the series by out-scoring the Toros 26-5, scoring single single runs in the first and third, and adding a pair of runs in the fourth and sixth frames.

In the seventh, however, an Alex Sixtos leadoff single began the rally, and a Bronco error two batters later gave CSUDH life with two runners on base.

A wild pitch plated Sixtos, with a walk and hit batter loading the bases, setting the table for Rossman.

The senior utility player banged a 1-1 offering down the right field line to plate two more, until Bronco closer Austin Boyle did just that, inducing the two Toros he faced to swing at the first pitch with both popping up to end the rally and the game.

Hayden Maurice led all batters with a 3-for-3 effort with Rossman's two RBIs topping all hitters.

David Haerle threw 4.2 innings and allowed four earned runs, fanning two Broncos in his outing.

CSUDH will try to end its three-game skid this weekend in Seaside, facing CS Monterey Bay for a four-game CCAA series.
