Box Score
AZUSA -- Host Azusa Pacific belted nine hits to five for Cal State Dominguez Hills in taking a 5-1 win over the Toros in a non-conference contest at the Cougar Baseball Complex.
Jordan Yallen led the Toros with two hits as CSUDH falls to 10-13 on the year, but APU starter Zach Hedges was the story as he piled up a career-high 12 strikeouts and carried a three-hit shutout into the ninth inning.
Hedges struck out the side in the fourth inning and seemingly grew stronger as the game went on, striking out 10 of 18 Toro batters from the fourth through eighth innings.
Meanwhile, the Cougar offense generated a pair of first-inning runs to give Hedges an early lead to work with, and senior third basemane Danny Gonzales xtended it to 4-0 when he blistered a two-run shot to right field in the sixth inning for his first home run of the year.
Down 5-0, the Toros put across their lone run of the game in the ninth after Danny Haley roped a one-out double to the left center field gap, moved to third on a Peter Ives infield single and scored on a Buby Rossman ground out.
CSUDH will complete its four-game CCAA set against Cal Poly Pomona with a single road game against the Broncos on Tuesday, March 25, with first pitch set for a 1 pm start.
