Seawolves Take 2-1 Opener in Walk-Off Fashion

ROHNERT PARK -- Cal State Dominguez Hills scored the game-tying run in the top of the 9th on the final of three Sonoma State errors, but the hosts answered right back on a sacrifice fly to center to take a 2-1 win in the CCAA series opener.

Hayden Maurice knocked two of CSUDH's four hits in the loss as the Toros dropped to 9-10, 4-8 CCAA.

SSU starter George Asmus was in control to open the series, hurling a complete-game win while scattering just four hits and fanning seven.

He faced 33 batters in 102 innings pitched, with the Seawolves providing the game's first run in the fourth.

Toro starter Jeffrey Gogue nearly matched Asmus pitch-for-pitch while going 8.0 innings himself with a whopping 120 pitches on the day.

After the Toros tied the game in the top of the ninth on one hit and a pair of SSU miscues, Aaron Grey came in to hold the tie, but a lead-off walk proved costly as a sacrifice fly brought home the game-winner in the pitcher's duel.

The two teams will continue their series tomorrow with a double-header beginning at 11 am.
