Toros Dominate Seawolves En Route to 79-53 Win

Box Score

ROHNERT PARK -- Junior Tayler Champion led all scorers with 20 points as Cal State Dominguez Hills took a convincing 79-53 win over host Sonoma State tonight.

With the win, CSUDH moves to 15-5, 11-5 CCAA, and keeps pace with Chico State for second place in league play.  SSU, meanwhile, falls to 3-17, 2-14 CCAA.

The Toros held the Seawolves to just 30.9 shooting from the floor while forcing 20 turnovers from the hosts.

Both teams traded scoring possessions through the first five minutes of the contest, but Cal State Dominguez Hills went on a tear and extended its lead to as much as 18 points at 28-10 with 5:47 left to go in the half.  Sonoma State got to within 12 points at the 2:04 mark, but it would be as close as the hosts would get because the Toros grabbed their largest lead of the night (38 points) after a pair of free throws put them up 76-38 with exactly three minutes to go in the game.

To their credit, the Seawolves never gave up and ended the contest on a 15-3 run.

For Cal State Dominguez Hills, Champion shot 7-of-10 from the floor, and 4-of-7 from downtown while Simone Thompson added 11 in the Toros' victory.

CSUDH will return home for a key weekend homestand on Friday, as CS Stanislaus visits Carson for "Think Pink" Friday, before a showdown against Chico State on "Pack the Stand Night" the next night.
