Women's Hoops Receives Votes in USA TODAY Top 25 Poll

Monay Lee is enjoying a stellar sophomore season thus far
McLEAN, Virginia -- Taking sole possession of second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings following wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay at home last weekend, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team received votes in this week's USA TODAY Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

This, the 10th week of the poll, is the first time this year the Toros have been on the national radar.  And with the sixth-most votes received outside the top 25 teams, the inclusion makes the Toros the unofficial 31st ranked team in the nation.

CSUDH is led by a potent 1-2-3 offensive punch in Monay Lee (pictured), Tayler Champion and Talia Rayford, who also sit amongst the CCAA's top 15 in scoring, with the trio also in the top 7 in the league in rebounding.

After taking down the Otters in a 75-62 decision on Friday, the Toros stormed back from a 17-point second-half deficit to shock the Pioneers as CSUDH out-scored CSUEB by 19 over the game's final 10 minutes, turning an 11-point deficit into an 8-point win.

One of the two hottest teams in the league, CSUDH has won 12 of its last 14 games, with the two losses coming in an 80-78 heartbreaker at Chico State on January 10, and a 64-53 setback to then No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona at home on January 18.

CCAA leader Cal Poly Pomona is the highest-ranking and lone CCAA school on the poll, coming in this week tied at No. 16.  Cal State East Bay, which received votes prior to last week's losses at CSULA and CSUDH, did not receive votes this week.

The USA TODAY Sports board of coaches is made up of 33 head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

Winners of four-straight, the Toros will take to the road this weekend for a pair of league tilts starting with a date against San Francisco State this Friday in The Swamp at 5:30 pm, looking for a regular season sweep of the Gators after CSUDH won the earlier meeting in a convincing 79-64 decision.
