CARSON -- Coming off a three-games-to-one series win over Cal State San Bernardino last week, the Toros continued their hot bats against No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona in game one of today's double-header as they put across six runs in the second inning en route to 15 hits, coming away with a convincing 10-2 win over the Broncos in an early season key match-up.

CPP, however, bounced back in the nightcap en route to an equally convincing 14-2 win that moved the Toros to 9-4, 4-2 CCAA.

Starter David Haerle earned the win in the opener after going 6.0, scattering six hits with one earned run allowed, while Bubby Rossman led a plethora of Toro hitters with at least two hits with his own 4-for-5 effort with a run scored.

The game was scoreless until the big inning, when a Kamran Young walk started the offensive rally in which 12 batters came to the plate.

Reigning NCBWA West Region and CCAA Player of the Week David Steininger got the scoring started with a 2RBI single to left field, after which Peter Ives drove home two runs with a double to left before a CPP error ahd Nick Wagner RBI single completed the scoring.

The Broncos answered with a single run in the 3rd before the two teams put across a run each heading into the bottom of the 8th.

In that frame, a Young double brought in Danny Haley and Rossman, who opened the inning with consecutive singles.  Another error by CPP led to the third run of the frame, and the final run of the game.

Haerle fanned five batters while Aaron Gray tossed the final three innings in relief to pick up the save, his third.

In addition to Rossman's output, Haley finished with three hits and Maurice and Steininger two each, with Ives, Young and Steininger driving home two runs each.

The nightcap was all Pomona as a trio of Broncos roped three hits, led by David Armendariz who also drove in five and scored three himself.

Much like the Toros capitalized on a big inning in the opener, CPP did the same in the late game with six in the 8th to break open a manageable contest.

Tyler Mark suffered the loss after pitching 6.0 innings as Young and Steininger tallied two hits in the loss.

The two teams will square off for a Sunday double-header to complete the four-game set, with game one set for an 11 am first pitch in Pomona.
