Jacks Hand Toros Third-Consecutive Loss in 66-57 Setback

Box Score

ARCATA -- Junior Talia Rayford led all scorers with 22 points, but host Humboldt State used a 10-point lead at the break to come away with a key 66-57 decision tonight in Lumberjack Arena to send off their seniors with a win on "Senior Night."

Cal State Dominguez Hills fell to 16-8, 12-8 CCAA with its second loss of the weekend.

Kelly Kime, one of three HSU seniors, had the biggest final Lumberjack Arena appearance. The local Eureka product downed three of four triples and four of five overall shots for 11 points.

Along with the assist to Kime, Elle Anderson chipped in four points, two rebounds and a steal while Jain Tuey converted one conventional 3-point play and pulled down two boards.

Leading HSU in scoring, Kersey Wilcox converted 10 of 11 free throws and four of six attempts for a team-high 18 points go with six assists and three rebounds.

Tied at 13 with 9:17 into the game, Wilcox converted a 3-point play to give HSU a lead it would not give up the rest of the night. From that point, the Jacks finished the opening half by outscoring CSU Dominguez Hills, 19-9, for a 32-22 advantage.

The Toros were able to cut the margin down to two points twice, 36-34 and 38-36, in the first eight minutes of the second stanza.

Gaumer buried a triple and Anderson laid the ball into the bucket off a Kime assist to push the difference back to seven, 43-36. The home lead would be no less than five points in the final part of the night.

Tayler Champion added 12 points and 6 boards in the loss, with Monay Lee chipping in 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

CSUDH will head home for its final regular season games of the year next weekend, starting with a Friday tilt against CS San Bernardino.
