Humboldt State Deals Toros Sixth-Straight Loss in 83-72 Decision

Box Score

ARCATA -- Junior Darnell Martin tied for game-high scoring honors with 20 points while leading all players with 13 boards, but host Humboldt State drained nearly 50% of its shots from the floor in taking an 83-72 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills tonight in Lumberjack Arena on "Senior Night."

HSU's Parker Farris drained a five 3-pointers as part of his 20-point night to lead the Lumberjacks over the Toros, 83-72, on the final home game in Lumberjack Arena of the season Saturday night, while Chris Pender added eight points and four boards.

The night and HSU win was off the outside shooting of Farris and Jordan Mackie, as Mackie had his best game in recent weeks with a perfect four for four night from long-range and five of seven overall for 14 points.

For the second time in his first season, Farris downed at least five triples. His 3-pointers came in 10 attempts and made seven of 14 of his shots on the night. He also had three assists and three rebounds.

CSU Dominguez Hills, which fell to 7-20, 4-16 CCAA, was bolstered by Moriba DeFreitas' 10 rebounds and four blocks.

The Jacks led by as many as eight points twice, 21-13 and 31-23, in the first half before having a 36-30 intermission advantage.

HSU put the game away early in the second half by starting on a 14-0 run over the first 6:22 to open a 50-30 margin.

The Toros battled back to within five points, 72-67, with 1:30 remaining off some hot shooting and home turnovers but could get no closer.

CSUDH will conclude its season at home next weekend, starting with a Friday night battle against perennial power CS San Bernardino.
