Warriors Play Like Defending CCAA Tourney Champs in 67-52 Win Over Toros

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills scored the game's first points, but it was all defending CCAA Tournament Champion Cal State Stanislaus after that as the Warriors used a strong second half to pull away from the Toros tonight in league action.

Shaquille Hunter led a pair of Toro double-figure scorers with 11 points in the loss that drops CSUDH to 3-5, 0-3 CCAA.

The Warriors built a slim lead in the first half, using a perfect 4-of-4 performance from the line and four made triples to take a 30-26 lead into intermission.

A Hunter triple with a minute and a half elapsed in the second period brought CSUDH to within 32-29, but Stanislaus scored the next seven points to push the lead to double figures.

The lead reached as high as 13 at the 12:00 mark, and increased to 19 eight minutes later on a West Bartole bucket en route to the 15-point win.

Stanislaus got even hotter after the break, making 12 of its 22 attempts with not even CSUDH's efficient 41.7% shooting in the second half able to make a dent in the visitor's lead.

The Warriors used their size to a distinct 32 to 22 rebound edge, resulting in a 13-4 advantage in 2nd chance points.

Emmett Duvall added 10 points and Justin Sadler nine in the loss, with Duvall and Josh Brown sharing team-high honors with four boards each.

CSUDH will look to pick up its first win on Saturday against cross-town rival Cal State L.A., also looking to avenge an earlier season loss to the Golden Eagles in Carson on November 29.
