Sadler's Career Night Fuels 79-66 Win Over Bristol

Box Score CARSON -- Needing a solid effort after four-straight losses, sophomore Justin Sadler stepped up to the challenge as he scored a career-high 27 points with a career-high 10 boards to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 79-66 win over Bristol University in the final game of the 2014 calendar year.

The sophomore connected for 80% of his shots (12-of-15) in the win as CSUDH dominated the boards to the tune of a 33 to 17 rebounding edge as CSUDH moves to 4-6 overall.

"It felt good to end 2014 with a win," begins CSUDH interim head coach Steve Becker, on the much-needed victory.

"Justin did a tremendous job for us tonight and he really found his confidence in the flow of our offense, which was great to see, and I was also happy with our ability to defend the 3-point line.

"David did a nice job of knocking shots down for us as well, and Ivan again made key plays for us down the stretch."

After Bristol scored the game's first points, the Toros took over with Sadler scoring eight of his team's first 13 points to give the hosts a 13-8 lead at 13:29.  Another Sadler bucket gave CSUDH its first double-figure lad of the night at 24-14 three minutes later, a lead that grew to 14 on an Emmett Duval layup en route to a commanding 44-28 lead entering the break.

The lead hovered around the 15-point mark as the second half got underway, with a David Gonzalez triple pushing CSUDH's lead to 20, with another triple, this time by Darius Butler, giving the Toros a 56-34 edge with 13:54 left in regulation.

Bristol kept it close thanks to Toro fouls over the final minutes of the game, totaling 21 for the game, but it was too little, too late in the eventual 79-66 victory.

Gonzalez added 12 on four 3-point makes, with Ivan Dooley contributing 11 points in the win.

The Toros scorched Bristol's porous defense to the tune of a 59.6 shooting percentage, including a sizzling 45.5% from downtown.

"We are looking to recharge our batteries over the reak and prepare for a solid Humboldt State team on their floor following the break," concludes Becker.

CSUDH resumes action on January 1, taking on Humboldt State in Arcata.
