Dooley Does Damage as Toros Down Hawks for First Win of the Year

RIVERSIDE -- Newcomer Ivan Dooley drained 8 of his 14 shots from the floor that included four 3-pointers as Cal State Dominguez Hills shot 52.6% from the floor in a 79-67 win over Holy Names University.

The Toros even their record at 1-1 on the new season while HNU remains winless at 0-2.

Dooley began his reign in the first half, scoring 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting to lead the Toros to a 14-0 advantage to begin the game, and a 39-30 lead at the break while CSUDH nailed 58.1% of its shots from the field and dominated the glass to the tune of a 24 to 12 advantage.

CSUDH's continued to keep the Crusaders down at least seven points early in the second half, pushing its lead to 53-41 on a Dooley triple with 12:45 left in the game, before a pair of Jonathan Nichols free throws put the game away while giving the Toros a 75-60 lead with 92 ticks left before four Nichols freebies in the final 27 seconds accounted for the final score.

Darnell Martin added 13 while Nichols and Justin Sadler chipped in 10 points each, while Sadler tallied game-high rebounding honors with 12 for game's lone double-double as CSUDH hammered HNU on the boards, 45 to 26.

CSUDH sparkled at the line sinking 14-of-17, led by a perfect 6-for-6 by Nichols.

The Toros head south to take on Point Loma on Tuesday, with tipoff set for 7 pm in San Diego.
