Lancers Cruise to 69-43 Win as 2014-15 Season Opens

RIVERSIDE -- Newcomer Emmett Duvall led visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills with 13 points and 11 boards in his Toro debut, but host Cal Baptist connected for 43.1% of its shots from the field and 72.2% from the foul line in cruising to a 69-43 win in the season opener for both teams.

The Toros drop to 0-1 to begin the year.

The hosts got off to a quick start, doubling the amount of Toro field goals to take a 33-18 lead after the first 20 minutes of play.

Things didn't get much better for the Toros as CBU pushed its lead to 19 five minutes into the second half, and up to 29 points with 9:42 left in regulation.

A Brandon Woods triple seven minutes later brought CSUDH's deficit to 58-40, with the second of two made free throws by Ivan Dooley giving the Toros a bit of life at 58-42, but CBU scored the next seven points to keep its lead in the 20s in the eventual 26-point win.

The Toros made just 26.8% of their shots while CBU sizzled at 43.1%, including 72.2% from the foul line.

CSUDH, meanwhile, misfired on 13 of its 25 free throw attempts for a 48.0% success rate.

The Toros take on Holy Names University tomorrow at 4:30 pm, looking for their first win of the new year.
