East Bay Tallies Goals Early and Late in 2-0 Win Over Toros

HAYWARD -- Host Cal State East Bay tallied goals in the 11th and 87th minutes, and those were enough as the Pioneers took a 2-0 win over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills this afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.

Gabrielle Pena fired off a team-high 3 shots in the loss as CSUDH drops to 2-13-1 overall, and 2-7 in CCAA play.

The Pioneers tallied a 5-0 edge in shots to open the first 45 minutes of play, forcing Toro keeper Jennifer Ackerly to make one save.  The one shot in the first half that couldn't be saved, however came at 10:03 as a pass down the right side and ensuing cross found Ariana Gordon on the left side, with Gordon's volley from 5 yards away besting Ackerly for a 1-0 Pioneer lead.

CSUDH's offense finally came alive after the break as it rattled off 7 shots, with just one on goal courtesy of Kristin Osuna.

CSUEB, however, fired off 8 shots after intermission, and finally added an insurance goal at the 86:30 mark when Megan Ravenscroft tallied her second assist of the night, delivering a through ball to the right side of the pitch where it found Corryn Barney whose rocket from 14 yards away provided the final tally of the match.

Ackerly finished with four saves on the afternoon as the Toros suffered their program record 11th shutout, and sixth by a 2-0 decision.

CSUDH will look to end its two-match skid at CS Stanislaus on Sunday, with first kick set for 11:30 am in Turlock.
