Gators Make Quick Work of Toros in Sweep

SAN FRANCISCO -- Visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills was held to a -.018 hitting percentage in an afternoon CCAA tilt, and the result was a 3-0 loss at host San Francisco State as the Toros dropped to 2-15, 1-12 CCAA.

Claire Autry led the Toros with eight kills in the loss as SFSU ended a seven-match streak of having not won on Saturdays.

The Gators carried over their momentum from the dominating win over Cal State L.A. the night before by taking early control of the match from the first set.  After the Toros tied the set at 3-3, the Gators went on a 13-3 run en toute to the 25-18 win.  The match only featured 11 ties and four lead changes most of that coming in the first and third set.

The Gators hit .248 as a team and received a balance attack.  Setter Jacquie Brice recorded 32 assists with 13 digs for her ninth double-double of the year and spread the wealth as eight players recorded a kill on the afternoon.

Leading the team in kills was Jaclyn Clark who recorded a match-high 11 kills on 29 swings.

Defensively the Gators were all over the floor.  The Toros hit -.018 on the afternoon recording just 22 kills while hitting into 24 errors on 109 attempts.  Brice recorded a match-high with her 13 digs, while Jessica Nicerio and Krista Forte added 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

In the second set the Gators defense was particularly stifling as the Toros managed just five kills with 10 errors in the set and hit -.143.  Meanwhile SF State had their best set, posting a .355 attack percentage.  The third set was more of the same.  Cal State Dominguez Hills tied the set up at 8-8 following a Gator attack error.  From there it was all Gators, as SF State went on an 11-3 run to take a 19-11 advantage before closing out the 25-19 decision.

CSUDH returns home next weekend, beginning with a 7 pm match-up against UC San Diego.
