Win Streak Hits Six After Impressive 79-64 Win Over San Francisco State

Box Score

CARSON -- They don't call her "Breezy" for nothing.  In a frenetic display of energy, urgency and efficiency rolled up into a 5-2 sparkplug, sophomore Breanne Garcia's statline read 16 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds, but her on-court leadership was evident as the Toros regrouped after last night's less-than-comfortable win over Sonoma State with an impressive 79-64 decision over San Francisco State.

With the win, CSUDH's sixth-straight, the Toros move to 8-2, 4-2 CCAA, while the Gators drop to 8-4, 4-2 CCAA as the teams are two of four squads tied for 4th place in the league standings with identical 4-2 records.

After scoring the first four points of the game courtesy of a Monay Lee free throw and a triple by Garcia, the hosts pushed their lead to double-figures after a Kielyn Wilson bucket at the 12:17 mark, and to 15 at 22-7 after a Lee jumper three minutes later.

The Gators cut their deficit to single digits, only to have the Toros regain momentum and control of the contest as they headed into the break up 40-27.

After intermission, the lead ballooned to 20 at 15:11 on a Tayler Champion bucket in the paint, to 21 at 68-47 on a Lee basket at the 7:40 mark, to 22 at 72-50 on the last of two Lee free throw makes at 6:23, and to a game-high 23 at 77-54 on a Talia Rayford 3-pointer at 3:23, all but putting the game away en route to the 79-64 final.

Amber Wharton finished with a team-best 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting and 7-of-8 from the foul line, while Lee's 13, and 10 each by Champion and Wilson aided in the big win.

The Toros again dominated on the glass to the tune of a 45 to 32 advantage, with Lee pulling down a game-high 11 to give her the game's lone double-double.

CSUDH also took advantage of their gimmes, draining 22 of 27 free throws while recording 11 steals compared to 6 for the visitors.

The Toros will look to make it seven-straight on the road next weekend, traveling to perennial power Chico State.
