Skid Hits Three After 70-54 Loss at CS Stanislaus

Box Score

TURLOCK -- Another cold shooting night for the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros resulted in its third-straight loss, this time a 70-54 setback at CS Stanislaus.  CSUDH converted on just 34.5% of its shots from the floor and an even colder 18.8% from long range with Darnell Martin's 11-rebound, 10-point effort one of the few bright spots on the evening.

With the loss, CSUDH dips to 5-10 overall, and 2-6 in the CCAA.

A Justin Sadler bucket to begin the game got the Toros off on the right foot after a disappointing loss at Chico State last night, with the two teams forging five ties before the hosts entered the break up 32-31.

The second half, however, was all Stanislaus as the hosts went on a 15-5 run to open the stanza, taking control of the contest after building its 47-36 lead with 15:17 left in regulation.

A Givon Crump pulled the Toros to within six at 48-42 two minutes later, but the Warriors regrouped in building their lead back to double-figures after a Shey Mataele triple with 5:23 to go en route to the 16-point win.

The Warriors received huge production from downtown, sinking nine threes compared to just three for the visitors.  Even more glaring was CSUS shooting 50% from the floor while CSUDH made just 19 field goals on the night, with just seven coming after the break.

DeShaun Freeman led the Toros with 11 points with Givon Crump adding 10 points in just 11 minutes of play.

The Toros will look to end their skid on Friday as Humboldt State visits Carson, with first tip set for 7:30 pm on the "Dave Yanai Court."
