Toros Break Into NSCAA Top 25 at No. 14

Senior co-captain Jio Santana has provided sound leadership for the 14th-ranked Toros
KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Bolstered by two CCAA wins on the road last weekend, both by identical 3-1 counts, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team made its debut today on the National Soccer Coaches Assocation of America's Top 25 poll at No. 14, the NSCAA announced just now.

NSCAA National Poll No. 3

CSUDH, currently at 4-0-2, 2-0-2 CCAA, sits in second place in the South Division, trailing Sunday's foe in Chico State by a single point entering Friday night's battle with Cal State San Bernardino.

On the national scale, the Toros are the highest-ranked team in the NCAA West Region, with CCAA foe UC San Diego checking in tied for No. 22, and Chico State receiving votes.

Senior Aaron Salazar leads the way with 12 points on three goals and six assists, with junior newcomers Heriberto Ponce (4G, 8P) and Alejandro Covarrubias (2G, 4A, 8P) helping aid the high-potent attack while senior co-captain Jio Santana (pictured) has solidified the midfield with his leadership and intangibles.

The Toros and Coyotes hook up at 7 pm in Toro Stadium, with Chico State's match-up set for 2 pm on Sunday.  You can follow both contests via live stats by clicking here.
