McGee Makes the Difference in 2-1 OT Win Over Cal Poly Pomona

Janelle McGee had reason to celebrate after her golden goal over the Broncos
Box Score

CARSON -- Junior newcomer Janelle McGee collected a pass at the goal mouth after the Cal Poly Pomona keeper failed to collect a free ball, and her one-touch from a yard out ended the extra frame just 2:33 into overtime and gave the Toros a hard-fought 2-1 OT win over a game Bronco club to hand CPP its first loss of the year.

Watch Janelle talk about her heroics:

With the win, CSUDH snaps a two-game skid and improves to 2-2, 1-1 CCAA, while CPP falls to 3-1, 1-1 CCAA.

An early goal by the Broncos in the 16th minute after a through ball skipped through the Toro defense looked to give the visitors a jump start, but the Toro defense kept CPP off the board the rest of the half.

Down 1-0 in the 66th minute, McGee's length paid dividends after collecting a loose ball 8 yards from the CPP keeper, and lobbing her shot over Sarah Rohman.

That's where the score remained until overtime, when a Toro flurry to start the extra session connected as McGee collected a pass at the center of the goal after Rohman failed to collect a loose ball, and punched in her empty netter for the game winner.

Toro keeper Jennifer Ackerly made 3 saves in the win, while her counterpart equaled that output with three saves of her own.

The Toros will take to the road next weekend to battle CS Monterey Bay and San Francisco State.
