LA JOLLA -- Showing a focus en route to seniors Elizabeth Krieger and Abbey Prusa (pictured) labeling this year, their fourth and final season, as the "Road to December" during preseason, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team took a major step towards that goal after sweeping 10th-ranked Fresno Pacific, the program's first win over a top 10 team in the history of the program.

CSUDH then came from behind to topple upset-minded Alaska Anchorage in a 5-set thriller as three Toros finished with at least 10 kills, led by 12 each by Alijah Gunsaulus and Elizabeth Krieger to give them a perfect 4-0 mark in the tournament and 7-1 overall mark.

Behind 13 kills by Alijah and 17 digs by Krieger, the Toros held the Sunbirds to just 17 and 18 points in games two and three after a close 27-25 set one win, one match after Fresno Pacific bested national power and current No. 18 CS San Bernardino 3-2 yesterday.

The opening set saw FPU take an early 7-3 lead before the Toros forged ahead behind the strong serve of Gunsaulus.  The Sunbirds, however, bounced back to take a 20-16 lead before Whitney Lee's serve turned the match around, eventually knotting the contest at 20-each.

The two teams tied three more times, the last at 25-25, before a Sunbird error and Prusa putaway accounted for the set's final two points.

It was all CSUDH in sets two and three as the Toros pulled away behind the attack of Gunsaulus and Prusa, as well as Lee's serve, while the Toros never trailed in set three en route to the 25-18 win, the penultimate point coming on a smash by Lee.

The Toros hit a respectable .209, but held FPU to just .087 hitting as attack and service errors proved too big of obstacles to overcome.

In the nightcap, CSUDH found itself down two sets to one before hitting .355 in set four to even the match and force a fifth.

In the deciding frame, CSUDH put away six balls with just one error compared to five kills and eight errors for UAA in the 15-6 runaway.

Hannah Oros added 11 kills and a .455 hitting percentage, while Lee contributed five aces in the 5-set win.

Libero Korryne Kelley continued her stellar defense, pacing the Toros with 16 digs as five CSUDH players posted double-figure saves.

For their efforts over the weekend, Krieger and setter Dana Brown were named to the All-Tournament team.

CSUDH begins CCAA action on the road this weekend at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday night, before a trip to Humboldt State two days later.
