Toros Split Twinbill Against No.16 Sonoma State in Identical 4-2 Decisions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros continued to show fight to conclude the 2013 season after a 4-2 win over No.16 Sonoma State in the opening game of their final double header of the year before dropping the nightcap by an identical score.

Despite giving up 10 hits to the Seawolves, Toro starter Dimitri de la Fuente (pictured) only allowed two runs in 105 pitches, striking out five in 8.0 innings of work.

After the Seawolves took an early lead, Chris Allen doubled to left field to bring in Fernando Gallegos and Hayden Maurice to take the lead for good, as Allen went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Maurice 2-for-4 with one run and RBI.

Joseph Perez tallied his first save of the year after tossing a perfect ninth on just nine total pitches.

The Toros struggled in game two as David Haerle threw 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on two hits.  Brady Conlan and Bubby Rossman had two hits each in the effort as the Toros' 1-0 after three innings failed to hold up after SSU scored single runs in the 4th and 5th, and a pair in the 6th for insurance.

CSUDH cut a run off its deficit in the 7th on a fielder's choice that scored a run, but Glenn Wallace went the distance in the win.

The Toro pen worked 2 1/3 innings, with Cody Yates making 15 pitches in a perfect inning of work.

The two teams conclude the series tomorrow morning as the Toros honor seven seniors prior to the 11 am first pitch.
