Toros Take Down No. 17 Sonoma State, 9-1, to Open Final Series of Year

Box Score

CARSON -- Despite being eliminated from any postseason play in its last series after dropping three of four games, the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team showed it has plenty of fight and pride left after rolling to a 9-1 win over No. 17 Sonoma State to open the final series of the year.

Senior ace Sean Wardour enjoyed another solid outing, tossing 7.0 innings of 6-hit, 1-run ball to improve to 8-4 on the year as the Toros moved to 22-24, 18-19 CCAA.

After a balk by Wardour brought home the game's first run, it was all Cardinal and Gold after that as CSUDH sandwiched a single run in the 7th with four runs in both the 6th and 8th innings.

In the 6th, a Taylor Kahanowitch single brought home Ivory Thomas, with an RBI single by Danny Haley and a 2RBI double to right-center by utility player Dimitri de la Fuente bringing home the final two runs of the frame.

After a Hayden Maurice RBI baseknock brought home Kevin Logan with an unearned run after one of four errors by the Seawolves, a Jordan Yallen triple that hugged the right field line, and singles by de la Fuente and Logan brought home the final four runs of the game, with Logan's hit accounting for a pair of RBI.

That was plenty for Wardour, who fanned six against four walks in the win, his fifth in his past six starts.

The Toros pounded the SSU pitchers for 13 hits, pinning the loss on Seawolf starter Taylor Herbert, who fell to 3-3 on the year.

The two teams hook up tomorrow for a twinbill, with first pitch of game one set for an 11 am start on Toro Field.
