Toros Drop Wild One to Cal State L.A., 11-9

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills and cross-town rival Cal State L.A. combined for 20 runs, 32 hits and 8 errors in a wild contest pitting schools just 18 miles apart, with the Golden Eagles benefiting from six Toro errors en route to an 11-9 win. 

Hayden Maurice drove home 3 runs with a 2-for-5 performance in the defeat that dropped the Toros to 21-22, 17-17 CCAA, while CSULA moves to 27-17, 24-10 CCAA.

In a roller-coaster contest that four lead changes, it was Golden Eagle Jeremy Weber who made the difference with a 3-run blast and 2-RBI triple to account for five of the runs, with Tyler Christian also driving home five runs in the contest.

The Toros pounded 17 hits in the game as the 1 through 6 hitters earning 13 of them as each position player connected for a hit today.

But the six errors proved costly for the hosts as CSULA benefited from three unearned runs that made the difference.

Starter Dimitri de la Fuente went 6.1 innings with 2 strikeouts in the no-decision, with Joseph Perez tossing 2.2 innings in picking up the loss.

The two teams will complete their four-game set tomorrow at Cal State L.A. with first pitch set for 11 am at Reeder Field.
