East Bay Walks Off With 9-8 Win to Take Three of Four in Series

Box Score

HAYWARD -- After the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros scored in six of the final seven innings of play to finally tie the game at 8-8, host Cal State East Bay mounted its own rally in the bottom of the 9th before eventually winning game four of the CCAA series on a walk-off RBI single to give the Pioneers three wins in the four-game series, despite five Pio errors this morning.

Ivory Thomas went 3-for-5 with 3RBI in the loss that puts the Toros in a tie for 6th place in the CCAA, three games back of 4th place with eight games left in the regular season.

It was an offensive contest from the start that began when a Kevin Logan one-out single and steal of second became a runner on 3B after an error on CSUEB's catcher, eventually turning into the game's first run on a wild pitch.

The Pioneers waited until their second inning at-bat, playting four runs on four hits and a pair of Toro errors.

CSUDH continued the offensive show with a pair of runs in the 3rd on a Thomas RBI single and fielder's choice, missing out on an opportunity after leaving the bases juiced to keep its deficit at 4-3.

That proved instrumental as each team scored a single run in its next two at-bats, with the Toros tying the game at 6-6 in the 6th on a Hayden Maurice RBI baseknock, until CSUEB put two across in its 6th inning at-bat to take an 8-6 lead.

The Toros used single runs in the 8th and 9th to tie the game, courtesy of three more CSUEB errors, but leaving four runners on base over the two innings proved disastrous as the Pioneers took advantage of their opportunity in the bottom of the 9th, getting a walk-off RBI single from leadoff hitter Eren Miravalles for the win.

Taylor Johnson took the loss after 3.1 innings of work, allowing just one earned run with four strikeouts.

Danny Haley and Hayden added a pair of hits each as CSUDH lost just its second league series of the year, and the first since th eopening weekend against power Chico State.

The Toros return home next week against cross-town rival Cal State L.A., with a pair of single games at 3 pm on Thursday and Friday.
