Fernando Gallegos put a hurt on the Gators with his 4-for-6 performance in today's win
Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team pounded out a season-high 19 hits en route to a season-high 14 runs scored in a runaway 14-2 rout over San Francisco State to close the four-game CCAA set, and give CSUDH a three games to one series win.

Matt Montgomery picked up his third win of the year to even his record at 3-3, while Fernando Gallegos enjoyed a monster game going 4-of-6 with 2 RBI, one of six Toros with at least two hits, and one of four with at least 2 RBI.

With the win, the Toros improve to 19-18, 15-13 CCAA, while the Gators fall to 13-27, 10-22 CCAA.

The little doubt that surfaced after the hosts took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning quickly was erased by a 6-run 4th and 4-run 5th to put the game away and ensure another series win by the Cardinal and Gold, with the big blows in the 4th courtesy of a 2RBI single by Chris Allen and an RBI each by Rico Pena, Kevin Logan and Gallegos as the Toros sent 11 men to the plate who banged out 5 hits.

Leading 6-2, CSUDH added four more in the 5th as RBI singles by Danny Haley, Logan and Gallegos provided three of the runs.

A Bubby Rossman RBI double in the followed by a Carlos Avila sacrifice fly in the 7th plated two more insurance runs, and a Tony McClendon pinch-hit 2-run jack to left in the 9th closed the scoring in the rout.

Montgomery was the beneficiary of today's offensive output after tossing 7.0 innings of work and allowing just one earned run, Danny Nieves and Cody Yates combining for two no-hit, no-run frames.

David Steininger, Avila, Allen, Hayden Maurice, and Haley joined Gallegos with multiple hits, with Logan, Allen and McClendon driving home a pair of runs.

CSUDH will continue its CCAA roadtrip next weekend against upstart Cal State East Bay, which currently is trying to avoid a sweep at the hands of Cal State L.A. at Reeder Field.
