Balance Gives Toros Split After 7-3 Nightcap Win Follows 6-5, 11-Inning Defeat in Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SAN FRANCISCO -- Nine different Toros each knocked a hit in today's nightcap en route to a Cal State Dominguez Hills 7-3 win, a result that followed the Toros squandering a 5-2 lead en route to a 6-5, 11-inning loss in the opener.

Kevin Logan went 3-for-7 on the day with a pair RBI and runs scored as CSUDH improves to 18-18, 14-13 CCAA, with SFSU now standing at 13-26, 10-21 CCAA.

After SFSU's walk-off win in the opener, the Toros used a Fernando Gallegos RBI single and Danny Haley sacrifice fly in the 2nd for a 2-0 lead, and then doubled their edge an inning later after an Ivory Thomas RBI baseknock and wild pitch.

A hit batter with the bases full brought home the first Gator run of the game in the bottom of the 3rd, but a Bubby Rossman RBI single pushed CSUDH's edge back to 4 at 5-1.

SFSU, however, answered with a pair of runs in the 4th, only to have CSUDH answer right back with single runs in the 5th and 6th courtesy of an error and wild pitch, with a final Gator tally in the 7th closing the scoring.

Joseph Perez eanred the win after 3.1 innings of work, with CSUDH being aided by a quintet of SFSU errors as starter David Haerle earning a no-decision after 3.2 innings with 6 hits and just one earned run.

In the opener, CSUDH held a 5-2 lead after its 6th-inning at-bat after two RBI singles by Logan and two RBI by Haley, only to have SFSU erase its deficit with 3 in the 6th.

That's where the score remained until the bottom of the 11th when Miguel Flores knocked his second hit of the game to the gap, scoring Grady Espinosa with the walk-off game-winner.

Perez suffered the loss after 2.1 innings of work, allowing 2 hits and the lone earned run, while Logan and Thomas paced the offense with two hits apiece.

The teams meet up once more tomorrow to finish the series in San Francisco, with first pitch set for 11 am.
