Toros Split Series With Walk-Off 3-2 Win Over No. 21 CS Monterey Bay

Box Score

CARSON -- The Toros offense came to play in the series finale in a 3-2 win over No. 21 Cal State Monterey Bay, getting three runs on 11 hits off four Otter pitchers and using two errors in the 9th for a walk-off win. CSUDH ace Sean Wardour (pictured) pitched his first complete game of the season, allowing two runs and fanning six batters.

The offense was led by Chris Allen who went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, with Kevin Logan knocking two hits of his own and scoring a run, while Carlos Avila went 3-for-4 in the game.

Finishing the series, the Otters fall to 15-14, 12-12 CCAA while the Toros improve to 20-19, 20-10 CCAA.

The Toros set the pace early earning a run in the 1st as Kevin Logan started the frame with a 2 bagger, eventually coming home via a Chris Allen RBI single up the middle.

The Otters, however, shot back with two runs in the 3rd to take the lead over the Toros, but that lead didn't last long as Allen came home to tie the score on a Danny Haley single up the middle.

Despite two Otter errors and 11 hits in the game, the Toros were not able to put anything together in five more innings of play even with leaving at least one runner stranded in every frame.

Denying the possibility of extra innings, the Toros finally took advantage of a throwing error by Monterey Bay shortstop Jason Merjano to let Allen get on base.

After the Toros' 4th and 5th hitters grounded out with Allen moving to 3B, Haley stepped to the plate looking to give CSUDH a series split.

With two down, Haley sent a laser down the left field line that Otter 3rd baseman David Garcia bobbled, causing a delayed throw to 1st that allowed Allen to score the game-winner.

Senior right-handed Sean Wardour earned the win after tossing 100 pitches, walking only one and striking out six.

Otters final pitcher AJ Quintero, meanwhile, was tagged with the hard-luck loss, throwing for 1.2 innings, allowing a hit and the unearned run.

Next, the Toros head to Nampa, Idaho, to face Northwest Nazarene University in two back-to-back non-conference twin bills, the start of nearly a month's worth of road games.  CSUDH finally returns home in late April to host cross-town rival Cal State L.A. for the first of the four-game set.
