Mr. Clutch came through again in game one's win

CARSON -- Junior centerfielder Kevin Logan smacked a 3-1 offering from Cal State San Bernardino reliever Brian Jipp with runners at 2nd and 1st in the bottom of the 9th, and the result was a thrilling 6-5 victory over the Coyotes after the guests tied the game with a run in the top of the inning, an effort that preceded the nightcap in which Bubby Rossman delivered a bases loaded single to drive home the winning run in the 3-2 win to sweep the Coyotes.

With their second- and third-consecutive wins, the Toros move to 9-8, 6-6 CCAA, while CSUSB dips to 9-7, 3-5 CCAA.

Offense was plentiful in the opener, as the two teams combined to score in all but two of the nine innings.

After CSUSB got on the scoreboard first, a Chris Allen RBI single in the 1st and wild pitch allowing Ivory Thomas to score in the 2nd gave the Toros the lead for good.

The Yotes tied the score at 2-2 after Billy Hamilton laced an RBI single to center in the 3rd, but the Toros answered with a pair of runs in their 3rd after an Allen RBI groundout and Bubby Rossman single each scored a Toro runner.

The teams alternated runs over the next three innings to bring CSUSB to within one at 5-4, with the Yotes knotting the score on an RBI single by Curtus Cassise in the 9th.

But that's when Logan's late-inning heroics emerged as the junior center fielder pounded an opposite field single by a lunging second baseman to drive home Thomas with the game-winner.

Reliever Taylor Johnson was Mr. Efficiency, earning the win after just 0.1 innings of work after entering with a pair of outs in the 9th.

A quintet of Toros earned two hits apiece as Spencer Maxey and David Steininger joined Logan, Rossman and Thomas in the 12-hit attack.

The nightcap saw the Yotes take their first lead of the day after catcher Stratton Kim drove home a pair of runs with a 2RBI single up the middle in the 2nd.

The Toros, however, quickly answered in their 2nd inning at bat after a Danny Haley groundout plated Rossman with CSUDH's first run, with the Toros knotting the game at 2-2 in the 5th after Maxey laid down a perfect squeeze, allowing the speedy Thomas to cross home plate.

That's where the score remained until the bottom of the 7th when Maxey began the rally with a leadoff single, moved to 2nd on a walk and to 3rd after Allen was plunked on an 0-2 offering, eventually scoring when Rossman pulled the first pitch he saw from reliever Matt LeVert through the right side for the second walk-off win in as many games.

Johnson picked up his second win in as many outings, this time pitching an entire inning after entering in the 7th with a runner on base.

Thomas belted 3 hits in the win, with Rossman and Maxey chipping in with a pair of hits each.

With the wins, the Toros find themselves in a 3-way tie for 5th place in league play, with a four-game set against Cal Poly Pomona next on the docket.  The first two games will be in Pomona on Thursday and Friday, followed by an 11 am twinbill on Saturday at Toro Field.
