Toros Close With 6-2 Decision Over Warriors to Split Series

Box Score

TURLOCK -- Coming off a twinbill loss on Saturday at Warrior Baseball Field, the Toros answered back with a seven-hit, six-run win in today's series finale to split the season series as Chris Allen (pictured) went 2-for-3 on the day with three runs and one RBI, with Ivory Thomas going 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the win.

With the loss, the Warriors fall to 7-20, 4-16 CCAA, while the Toros improve to 13-12, 10-10 CCAA.

After starting the game with a 2-run lead in the first inning courtesy of a triple by Allen and a sacrifice fly by Bubby Rossman, the Toros took advantage of a couple of Warrior errors to increase their lead to 4-0.

The Toros scored four more runs in the 3rd and 5th innings, all of which were off errors by the Warriors.  The Toros finished the game with six total runs, with four being unearned.

CSUS tried answering back with solo runs in the 4th and 8th innings, but were never able to make up for their five miscues.

Senior right-handed pitcher Matt Montgomerey earned the win after throwing 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and only one earned run.

Brady Conlan, Rossman and Carlos Avila also joined in on the effort with each getting a hit and driving in one batter in the win, a sign of resiliency after being no-hit in yesterday's nightcap.

CSUDH heads home to Toro Field next weekend to take on the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay in a four-game series, with game one at 3 pm on Friday.  All four games will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network, where you'll be able to hear the action as it happens.
