Toros Even Season Series After 11-8 Win at Cal Poly Pomona

Box Score

POMONA -- Junior and reigning CCAA Player of the Week Kevin Logan belted 4 hits with senior Ivory Thomas (pictured) driving in 4 runs as Cal State Dominguez Hills regained its offensive groove in an 11-8 win over Cal Poly Pomona to even the season series at two games apiece.

With the win, CSUDH evens its league mark at 8-8, while improving to 11-10 overall.  CPP, meanwhile, falls to 7-9 in the CCAA, and to 14-9 overall.

After the Broncos put up a 5 spot in the first inning to continue their offensive prowess from yesterday in which they scored 22 runs in the twinbill sweep, the Toros evened the score with 5 runs in the 3rd as Thomas belted the team's first home run of the year, a 3-run jack on the first pitch he saw from CPP starter Kyle McNutt.

A change of pitchers wasn't much better for the Broncos as a pair of CPP errors allowed a pair of unearned runs to score to tie the game at 5-5.

In the 4th, the Broncos regained the lead with 3 runs on 4 hits, looking to take the season series three games to one, but a single run in the 7th on a Carlos Avila RBI single was a precursor of big things to come an inning later as CSUDH put up its second 5-run inning, the big blows coming on 2RBI singles by Logan and Bubby Rossman.

Game one winner Sean Wardour came in for an unusual spell of relief, tossing 3.0 innings of shutout ball to pick up his third win overall, and second in the series.

Danny Haley added a 3-for-5 performance to the Toros' 15 hit-attack, with David Steininger and Chris Allen scoring two runs each to match Thomas' two runs scored.

CSUDH will take to the road for its next series, taking on Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock.
