De la Fuente Masterful as Toros Even Series With Coyotes After 2-0 Win

Box Score

SAN BERNARDINO -- Following a complete game win in his last outing over then No. 18 UC San Diego, an 8-2, 11 strikeout win, senior righty Dimitri De la Fuente turned it up a notch this afternoon against Cal State San Bernardino in a 2-0 win, fanning 8 batters while scattering 6 hits to even the series against the Yotes, with a twinbill set for tomorrow morning on Toro Field to wrap up the four-game set.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 7-8, 4-6 CCAA, while CSUSB falls to 9-5, 3-3 CCAA.

Pitching took center stage as De la Fuente and Ken Kissell kept opposing batters off the board for the first six frames.

CSUDH was the first team to break through in the 7th after Danny Haley belted the second of his hits down the left field line for a double to lead off the frame.

After a sacrifice brought Haley to 3B, Kevin Logan brought him home with a single to left, one of his three hits on the day that gave the Toros a 1-0 lead.

The Toros added an insurance run in their final at-bat as Ivory Thomas grounded out to shortstop, with the speedy Logan scoring from second base after stealing the bag.

That was plenty for De La Fuente, who retired the side in four innings and fanned eight against a single walk to give him 19 Ks and 1 walk in his last two outings.

Both teams had trouble bringing runners home as the Toros left 10 on base, and the Yotes nine.

The two teams will conclude their four-game set tomorrow morning in Carson, with game one set for an 11 am start on Toro Field.
