No. 11 Toros Manage Split on Day Two of Desert Stinger in Win Over No. 24 Dixie State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The 11th-ranked Toros survived six errors and a ranked opponent in game two of today's Desert Stinger Tournament, using an Adriana Sanchez walk-off bomb in the bottom of the 8th in the 5-4 win after CSUDH dropped a 6-1 decision to Colorado Mines in the opener.  Stephanie Jimenez (pictured) went 2-for-4 with 2RBI to aid in the victory.

With the split, CSUDH improves to 7-2 on the year, and will face host Montana State Billings tomorrow morning to conclude its stay in the tournament.

Against the 24th-ranked Red Storm, the Toros struck with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, with starting pitcher Jimenez helping herself with a 2RBI double.

That's where the score remained until the top of the 6th when DSC answered with 3 runs on 4 hits and a huge Toro error for the lead, one that was short-lived as a Daisy Beltran sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 6th knotted the game at 3-3.

The teams exchanged a single run in the next frame to set up Sanchez's heroics in the bottom of the 8th, clubbing a 1-2 pitch to right field to end it.

In the opener, the Toros seemed to slow down offensively after scoring 22 runs in their previous game, notching their first run of the game on a Sanchez blast in the 3rd.

Colorado Mines, however, would answer with 3 runs in each of the 5th and 6th innings to take a commanding 6-1 lead, and ride Kelly Unkrich's 5 hitter to hand CSUDH its second loss of the year.

The Toros managed just 5 hits in the opener, and comitted four errors to give them 10 on the day.

CSUDH will close the Desert Stinger against the host Yellowjackets tomorrow morning, with first pitch set for an 11:30 am start.
