Now in his fifth year, veteran sportscaster David Smock is the coordinating producer and lead play-by-play announcer for the Toro Sports Network. His broadcasting career began in his hometown while a student at Long Beach City College, where he received his A.A. in telecommunications.
Smock is a cum laude graduate of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in communication arts with an emphasis in broadcast journalism.
He was once the sports director at the NBC television affiliate in Billings, Montana. In 2007, Smock received a national cable TV award in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for best sports coverage from The Alliance for Community Media.
Making her Toro Sports Network debut this weekend, women's soccer freshman Katelyn Fregosi will serve as a baseball game analyst on select contests this season. Fregosi made 16 starts in 17 games played as a true freshman on the back line, tallying a goal against CS San Bernardino on October 12.
Fregosi's roots run deep on the diamond, however, being the daughter of 1st-team All-American Jim Fregosi, Jr., and the granddaughter of Jim Fregosi, Sr., former manager of the California Angels, Chicago White Sox, Philadeliphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays, as well as a 6-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner for the Angels.
Fregosi will make her debut this Saturday as Point Loma Nazarene visits Toro Field for a double-header at 11:00 am.
