Crump's 26 Leads Toros to 85-83 Overtime Win at Humboldt State

Box Score

ARCATA -- Junior Givon Crump hit 13 of 14 free throws en route to a game-high 26 points as Cal State Dominguez Hills took an 85-83 win at Humboldt State tonight.

The win puts the Toros into a tie for 5th place in league play with Cal State L.A. with one more game left in the regular season, with the top four teams set to host the first round of the CCAA Tournament, taking place on Tuesday, March 5, on campus sites.

The Toros started strong, taking a 6-point lead at 10-4 on a triple by Crump with just under four minutes elapsed in the first period.

The Jacks, however, found their stroke later in the session, with a Tom Witzel triple of his own giving HSU a 17-12 lead with 10 minutes left before the Toros caught the hosts at 28-28 on a Mitrell Clark lay-up, with two Clark freebies giving CSUDH a slim 30-28 lead entering the break.

Humboldt State looked to take control of the contest in the second half, opening a 10-point lead at 49-39 on the second of Deaundry Robinson's two free throw makes.

Crump, however led an 8-0 Toro run that got them to within a bucket, but the Jacks again had an answer, pushing their lead to 61-51 on another Witzel bucket with 3:03 left in the game, keeping the 10-point edge with 1:43 left after an Austin Bryan dunk.

Forced to hoist 3-pointers to get back into the game, the Toro did just that as Crump, Clark and Pierson Williams each hit a three over the final minute plus, with Williams' forcing overtime.

In the extra session, HSU ran off the first 7 points of overtime and held a 5-point lead with 79 seconds left, but a pair of Williams free throws and a Ryan Jefferson triple tied the game at 81-all with 1:05 left, setting up the fantastic finish.

After Crump was fouled and drained both his free throws to give CSUDH a 2-point lead, Brandon Woods had a chance to tie the game with 6 second left, but followed a make with a miss, all but sealing the deal.

Two more free throws by Crump gave CSUDH an 85-82 lead with 4 seconds left, and a free throw make and intentional miss by Darren Turpin went for naught as Myron Green grabbed the rebound, securing the tough road win.

Clark added 18 points in the win while Williams chipped in 15.

Free throws were the difference in the game as the Toros hit 30-of-33 in the game, while the Jacks misfired on 9-of 31 tries.

CSUDH will conclude the regular season at No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona on the Broncos' "Senior Night" after CPP took a 65-61 win over Cal State L.A. earlier tonight.
