No. 11 Wildcats Complete Sweep After 6-2 Win Over Toros

Box Score

CARSON -- Chico State starter Nick Baker threw 4.1 innings of perfect ball en route to scattering 3 hits in 7.0 innings of work as the 11th-ranked Wildcats completed the series sweep of the Toros today in a 6-2 decision.  David Steininger connected for the team's first hit in the 5th inning.

With the loss, CSUDH falls to 3-5, 0-4 CCAA, while CSUC stays perfect at 8-0, 4-0 CCAA.

Baker was stellar in his 7.0 innings, keeping the Toro hitters off balance while keeping his own pitch count low, earning a pair of seven-pitch innings in the process.

Ryne Clark and Blake Gibbs provided all the offense the Wildcats would need today, combining for 5 hits, 5 RBI and 5 runs scored, including a 2-run jack by Gibbs in the 7th inning.

The Toros looked to mount a would-be rally in their final at bat as CSUC's relievers ran into control issues, including hitting Chris Allen with the bases loaded after walking the bases full, with a Brady Conlan sacrifice fly accounting for the second and final run on the day for the hosts.

In addition to Steininger, Ivory Thomas and Alex Sixtos earned the other two hits, with seven Toros suffering strikeouts.

CCAA play doesn't get any easier for the Toros as perennial power UC San Diego visits Carson for single games on Thursday and Friday, set for 2 pm starts.
