Gators Spoil "Senior Day" With 58-49 Win Over Toros

CARSON -- Visiting San Francisco State held Cal State Dominguez Hills to just 14 made field goals en route to a 14-point halftime lead, and held off the Toros 58-49 to spoil "Senior Night" festivities as CSUDH honored Siedah Wilson and Kira DeMorales in a pre-game ceremony.

With the loss, CSUDH's fourth-straight, the Toros drop to 7-15 6-12 CCAA, while the Gators move to 11-11, 8-10 CCAA.

The Gators got out of the blocks quickly taking an 11-2 lead just 2:19 into the half, before a Robynn Cochran jumper two mintues later cut CSUDH's deficit to 13-8.

SFSU, however, replied with a 14-5 run to take control of the half, reaching its largest lead of the game at 33-18 before settling for a 37-23 lead entering the break.

In the second half, the Toros whittled their deficit to single digits at 39-32 on a Julia Poecksteiner lay-up at the 17:06 mark, and to as little ast 5 at 43-38 on another Cochran bucket.

But SFSU answered again, pushing its lead to 50-40 with 7:36 left, where the lead hovered until the final 9-point decision.

Breanne Garcia led the Toros with 13 points, witih Cochran pulling down 12 boards and chipping in 9 points of her own.

CSUDH will take to the road next weekend at Chico State and CS Stanislaus, looking to keep in the top eight in the league prior to the CCAA Championship Tournament that begins on March 5.
