Pierson Williams' Career Night Sends Seniors Out in Style With 73-60 Win Over Gators

Box Score

CARSON -- Junior Pierson Williams scored a career-high 28 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor that included eight 3s as Cal State Dominguez Hills sent five seniors out with a win after playing their final regular season game in the Torodome.

With their fourth-straight win, the Toros improve to 14-11, 10-8 CCAA, while the Gators fall to 13-9, 11-7 CCAA.

It was the Williams show from the outset as the junior sharp-shooter connected for 6-of-7 from the field in the first half en route to 17 points, with 15 coming via long range as CSUDH stayed close despite losing a 7-point lead, trailing 24-21 entering the break.

Williams' hot hand continued to keep the Toros in the game, with a triple giving the Toros an early lead in the second half, an edge that reached and stayed at least 10 points after a pair of Willams free throw makes at the 6:03 mark, with a Givon crump lay-up with 2:02 giving CSUDH its largest lead of the game of 16 points at 69-53, all but closing the door on the guests in the 73-60 final.

Williams tied the CSUDH single-game record of eight 3-pointers made, matching John Nojima's feat against Cal State Northridge on January 24, 1987.

Mitrell Clark added 12 points and Crump 11 in the win as CSUDH connected for 41.2% from the floor and 50% from long range, as well as a near-perfect 21-of-23 from the foul line.

Prior to the game, the Toros bade a fond farewell to five seniors in Myron Green, Matt Cain, Lamine Diame, Ryan Jefferson and Ricardo de la Rosa, who played their final regular season game on the "Dave Yanai Court."

CSUDH will take to the road for the final two weekends of play, looking to move into the top four of the league standings to host the first round of the CCAA tournament, set for March 5.
