No. 11 Wildcats Take Opener in 8-3 Decision

Box Score

CARSON -- Visiting and 11th-ranked Chico State used a trio of multi-run innings to take an 8-3 decision over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the opening game of this weekend's four-game set.  The Toros were limited to just four hits as senior Sean Wardour tossed 5.1 innings in today's setback.

With the loss, CSUDH falls to 3-3, 0-1 CCAA, while CSUC stays perfect at 5-0, 1-0 CCAA.

The Wildcats lived up to their billing this afternoon, collecting 13 hits in the 5-run win.

After scoring a pair of runs in both the 2nd and 3rd frames, CSUDH got on the scoreboard itself with a run in the 4th on a Danny Haley groundout that plated David Steininger, who walked to begin the frame.

That would be the closest the Toros would get, however, as the Wildcats scored three runs in the 6th inning starting with a Ben Manlove line drove homer to left, a rally that was quelled when reliever Tyler Mark picked off Cody Webber at second base for the final out of the frame.

CSUDH sandwiched single runs around Chico State's run in the 8th in the 8-3 final, with a quintet of Wildcats earning two hits.

Wardour tossed 5.1 innings of work, allowing 8 hits and 7 runs in the loss, fanning 3 against 2 walks.

Kagen Hopkins tossed the final 5.0 innings in relief to pick up the win, scattering just two hits with 5 Ks.

The two teams hook up again tomorrow morning for a twinbill, with first pitch set for 11 am on Toro Field.
