Toros Turn Las Vegas into Win City in 96-77 Decision Over Dixie State

LAS VEGAS, Nv. -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team rolled to its second-straight one-sided victory with a 96-77 win over host Dixie State at the Las Vegas Classic, held at the Orleans Hotel.

Tayler Champion led all players with 23 points and 11 rebounds as CSUDH shot 45.9% from the field and 80.8% from the foul line in the decisive win that brings the Toros to 5-2 on the year.

Leading from wire to wire, CSUDH scored the game's first seven points and built its first double-figure lead at 19-9 on a Monay Lee bucket.

The Toros increased their lead to a first-half high of 18 twice, the last coming on a Champion basket at 2:09 to make the score 48-32, before settling for a 50-36 edge at the break.

After intermission, CSUDH built its lead to 20 at 60-40 at 14:23 on a Champion bucket, pushing it to a game-high 24 at 84-60 on an Amber Wharton layup en route to the 19-point win, with the final three Toro points coming via Jenee Gooden free throws.

The Toro bench showed up huge tonight, outscoring DSC's bench 23-9.

Talia Rayford added 19 points and 7 boards, with Lee tallying 16 points and Wharton 11 to lead in the win.

CSUDH will conclude the Las Vegas Classic tomorrow at 11 am against Academy of Art, which bested Western Oregon 84-71 earlier today.
